The Amateur Camper
Welcome to The Amateur Camper. I hope to share some of my ideas, musing and misadventures of my family during our camping experiences in our Jayco travel trailer.
The first thing to know about me is that I am obsessed with Airstream trailers. I have always imagined traveling the country, towing a retro Airstream behind us. This is my dream. If you note above that is NOT what we currently have. Yet.
I am not a camper. I didn’t come from a family of campers. We did not camp. My husband is the total opposite. He is a camper, a tent camper that is. That is what primitive camping is called. I suggest avoiding it. My husband wanted us to be a camping family, but I just can not do camping in a tent. So in comes the trailer. The great compromise.
I know what you thinking. How can she say she not a camper, but still obsess over Airstreams. 1) Have you been inside one of these lately? They are nicer than my house. 2) They are so pretty and shiny. I love that the basic design has not change much since it was made popular in the 1940’s and 50’s. 3) There is something nostalgic about them that grips my soul.
I have slowly grown fond of the little Jayco. It is practical. It is small. Everything must have a place. If it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t go. You are very limited on what to bring. Back to being practical.
So a little information on our trailer. The Jayco was a Craigslist find. My husband said it was a good deal, meaning, cheaper than an Airstream. It has a queen sized bed and joy of joys bunkbeds for the boys. There is a small table and with small bench seats. A little refrigerator, stovetop and microwave. And a bathroom. Which will have hot water in the shower, when it is hooked up correctly.
I hope to give more insights on our camping adventures soon. This is my first Blog post, so I’m going to leave it brief. I need to figure out what the heck I am doing.
