The Summer Mix-Up, A Kid’s Drink Celebrating the End of Summer
Have kids celebrate the end of summer by combining the tastes of summer into a fun drink of their own creation.
What is a Summer Mix-Up?
The Summer Mix-Up was my youngest son’s idea to celebrate the end of the season on our last summer campout at Anastasia State Park. Instead of having one type of drink he decided it would be more fun to create his own. So I bought a combination of drinks that remind us of the lazy days of summer.
Types of drinks to buy:
- Lemonade
- Sport Drinks
- Orange Soda
- White Soda
- Colas
- Fruit Juices
- Grenadine Syrup
Garnishes
- Sliced Limes and Lemons
- Maraschino Cherries
I set everything up inside the camper on the kitchen table for easy access for the boys to create their own drink masterpiece. They came up with some amazing and colorful combinations!
Drink Combinations
The above drink was my own creation of equal parts white soda and pineapple juice with a bit of Grenadine Syrup. I added a few maraschino cherries as a garnish. It was fantastic!
The boys each came up with their own drinks as well.
My oldest just added white soda to his blue sport drink. It looks amazing! And my youngest added red and white sport drinks to his lemonade with a few maraschino cherries. They loved experimenting with different drink combinations. We had such a fun summer night at the campground.
Ice Machine
The star of the show was this Igloo countertop ice machine that I bought just for this camping trip. It was constantly making ice through out the night. This was such a great investment for future campouts.
My kids were fascinated with this machine and would yell out every time ice would drop into the basket. They loved watching the ice form. It was like a science experiment to them.
Light Up Cups
Another must have for making Summer Mixup Drinks is to have a fun cup to pour it into. We all loved our light up cups that I actually had gotten for Mother’s Day. They really add a WOW factor to any drink. You can find the cups here. Just don’t submerge the cups into water for an extended amount of time. We found out that this ruins the light effect. Wash them carefully!
Enjoys the last days of summer with your kids whether it’s at a campground or your own backyard!

What a great idea …the glasses are so much fun after dark and I may have to look into the ice maker for our RV trips
