Peach Cobbler Recipe

  • 1 Cup Self Rising Flour
  • 3/4 Cup Sugar (Divided)
  • 1/2 Cup Melted Butter (Divided)
  • 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon + a Sprinkle
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
  • 5 Peaches, sliced

Slice approximately 5 ripe peaches. Place in a bowl and add cinnamon and 1/4 cup of sugar. Mix well and allow the peaches to set for 2-3 hours in the refrigerator or overnight to allow juices to form. In a separate bowl add the cup of flour, 1/2 cup of sugar, and 1/4 cup of melted butter and mix well. Dust the bottom of a well-seasoned Dutch Oven with the flour mixture. Add the peaches and top with the remaining flour mixture. Pour the remaining melted butter on top and sprinkle with cinnamon. Place 7 briquettes on the bottom of the Dutch Oven and 14 on the top lid to bake at 350ยบ for approximately 40 minutes. Baking times will vary. Serve warm, vanilla ice cream optional.

Self-rising flour is a great option to take camping. It allows you to pack fewer ingredients, no baking soda or baking powder needed, it’s already in the flour.

Pick the ripest, juiciest peaches and make your own syrup that is better than canned peaches. Allowing the peaches to set for a few hours or overnight will create the liquid needed for the recipe. Slice the peaches up at home the day before you go camping to lessen the wait time. Don’t forget to add the sugar( 1/4 cup) and cinnamon.

In a large bowl mix together the flour, remaining sugar, and 1/4 cup melted butter. This will be crumbly.

Baking

Baking in a Dutch Oven can be a bit intimidating, but give it a try. I use a 10-inch Lodge Dutch Oven. The ratio for briquettes will be based on that size. If you have a different sized oven, use the chart that came with your Dutch Oven or use this chart.

I found that using a grilling chimney is a great way to prepare the briquettes. You will need approximately 21 briquettes, 7 will go on the bottom and 14 on the top lid of the Dutch Oven. The temperature for baking will be close to 350ยบ. Bake for around 40 minutes, but note that baking times will vary.

Helpful hint. Check the weather before baking. I didn’t and had to improvise.
