    Salt Springs Recreation Area

Our weekend camping adventure was to Salt Springs Recreation Area. This was an easy drive for us because it was located so close to our home. It made it a relaxing, stress free weekend, full of adventure. Salt Springs Recreation Area is located in the Ocala National Forest in Florida. It is located about 35 miles from Ocala in Marion County. Campsites We loved this campsite. It had everything we needed. There are extra long picnic tables, grills, and fire pits at each site. Not to mention they are also full hook ups for RVs. The paved parking pad was an added bonus. These are spacious sites with plenty of…

    Blue Spring State Park

It was such a gorgeous day in Florida we decided to finally try out the kayak. We chose a spring close to our home, Blue Spring State Park. The spring is located in Orange City, Volusia County. This is a popular park on the weekends especially November-March when the Manatees are wintering here. The park will not allow cars in when it reaches capacity. Arrive early if possible. We of course didn’t and had a small wait to get in. It was worth it! Manatees If you are ever in Florida in the winter months this is such a beautiful park to observe Manatees. The water is crystal clear. It…

    Dauphin Island

The boys had a weeklong break from school for Thanksgiving.  We thought is would be a great time to go camping.  We wanted to go somewhere different, and the boys wanted a beach.  So after driving nearly nine hours of a seven hour drive we arrived at Dauphin Island, Alabama at nighttime.  Everyone was tired.  Therefore as soon as we arrived at the campground we  just parked the camper and went to bed. Dauphin Island is a small island located about 40 minutes from Mobile.  It is surrounded by the waters of Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The island is very low key.  You will not find chain…

    Fort De Soto Park

We battled traffic on I4 in the rain to get to Pinellas County, Florida where an amazing campground is located.  Fort De Soto Park is a  county park that consists of a chain of five islands.  It is a historical, beautiful park that was a joy to explore. Our campsite was located on one of these islands.  Here is a view from behind our campsite. Our campsite was nestled into a well shaded area with Live Oaks and palm trees.  The campsites are spacious, but are close to one another.  A thin barrier of trees and shrubs do add a sense of privacy, but getting to know your neighbor is…

Crater of Diamonds Arkansas State Park

Our family took the long way home from Illinois to Florida just to make a side trip to this amazing state park in Arkansas.  The Crater of Diamonds State Park located in Murfreesboro, Arkansas is one the few places in the world where the general public can dig for diamonds. Hunting For Diamonds This is a great place for kids to learn hands on about diamonds and different ways to search for them.  We found the history of the diamond field to be fascinating and, of course, we were in awe of all the diamonds that had been found there. The day started out with a heavy rain, making the…
