Camping and Exploring at O’Leno State Park, Florida
We spent a beautiful fall weekend camping at O’Leno State Park in northern Florida. This was such a peaceful park to relax in and unwind after a hectic week. O’Leno State Park O’Leno is located near High Falls in Florida along the Santa Fe River. The park is full of picturesque points of interest and wildlife. Just waiting for you to explore. I found it interesting that O’Leno State Park was one of original Florida state parks when it opened in 1940. This park’s rich history connected to Civil Conservation Corps of the 1930’s and its past location of the lost town of Leno will enchant any history buff. This…

Camping at Huguenot Memorial Park
We spent the weekend camping at Huguenot Memorial Park, a city campground in Jacksonville, Florida. This was the perfect spot to enjoy the beauty of nature, passing ships and relaxing on a white sanded beach. Campsites The campsites at Huguenot are close together, but it didn’t feel crowded to us. We had a corner spot, #43, that was located near the road to the beach. The roadway can be busy with vehicles at times, but traffic stops a 7 at night when the beach closes to vehicles. The campsites have electric hookups, which is fantastic for running your air conditioner in the camper. There are no water hook ups. We…

Two Florida State Parks on Amelia Island
Sometimes in life you miss the boat, for us it was the ferry to Cumberland Island. Although we were disappointed, we discovered two Florida State Parks a short drive away on Amelia Island. We were fortunate enough to have time to explore both of them before heading back to our campsite at Crooked River State Park in Georgia. Fort Clinch State Park The first park we visited on Amelia Island was Fort Clinch State Park. The park itself was one we have tried to make camping reservations at before. It is very popular and the campsites are always full when we have tried to make reservations. If you get the…

Camping at Lake Louisa State Park
Hurricane Dorian messed up our weekend plans of camping at the beach. Luckily I was able to snag a last minute reservation at beautiful Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont, Florida. This is such a wonderful place to spend the weekend with lots of activities for my boys to enjoy. Although it was hot, even by Florida standards, we managed to explore this park and have a relaxing weekend of camping. Lake Louisa State Park Lake Louisa State Park is located only 30 minutes from Orlando. Making it a convenient campground for those vacationing at nearby theme parks. It is a great place to stay to decompress after a hectic…

Exploring Hontoon Island State Park
If you love day trips and hiking, exploring Hontoon Island State Park is the adventure for you. Hontoon Island is located in Deland, Florida, making it a great day trip from Orlando. The island is only accessible by boat. Take your own private boat or the ferry. Keep in mind the ferry’s last trip is 7:00 at night, but that can change so be sure to check with the park rangers. Hiking Hontoon Island has several hiking trails to explore. We hiked the Hammock Hiking Trail to Indian Shell Mound. This was a fairly easy hike, a bit wet in places, but manageable. It was a long hike, about 3…
