A Fun Filled Weekend at Myakka River State Park
We had a fun filled weekend at Florida’s Myakka River State Park, located just south of Tampa. It was a great way to spend quality family time before the busy Christmas season starts. About Myakka River State Park Myakka River State Park officially opened to the public in 1941. It was one of the first state parks in Florida to be created as part of the New Deal program, the Civilian Conservation Corp. You will see several of their projects while exploring the park. The Myakka River area is abundant with wildlife. Several species of birds make it their home, making this a bird watchers paradise. But for us it…

Easy No Sew Camping Blanket
We learned to make easy no sew blankets as part of my son’s Eagle Scout project. He oversaw the making of 75 blankets that were donated to the police. But well worth it. This method is perfect for making the coziest camping blanket on those chilly nights around the campfire. Just follow a few simple steps. Supplies for a No Sew Camping Blanket Below is a brief list of supplies needed to make a fleece no…

Caramel Apple Dump Cake in a Dutch Oven
We made Caramel Apple Dump Cake in our Dutch Oven on our first night of camping at O’Leno State Park. It was a snap to put together and made for a tasty treat with our campfire dinner of roasted hot dogs. Ingredients for Caramel Apple Dump Cake There are only 4 ingredients to this simple dessert. The vanilla ice cream is optional. We brought single serve ice cream cups with us to fit into our tiny freezer in the camper. They worked out really well for this dessert and our camping trip. 1 Yellow Box Cake Mix Stick of Butter (melted) Can of Apples Caramel Sauce (as much or a…

Easy Taco Pizza in a Dutch Oven
We made the best Taco Pizza in our Dutch oven on our last camping trip, O’Leno State Park. This was such an easy recipe, mostly because of the pre-prep work done before the campout. Taco Pizza Ingredients 1/2 lb Ground Taco Meat (beef or turkey) Refrigerated Pizza Dough 1/2 Cup Refried Beans 2 Tablespoons Queso Shredded Taco Flavored Cheese as much or as little as you prefer 1 Cup Shredded Lettuce 1 Small Tomato, diced Crushed Nacho Cheese Chips to your liking Hot Sauce (optional) Sour Cream (optional) Most of the ingredient’s quantites are approximate. I rarely measure ingredients when I am cooking while camping. I usually just throw things…

Camping and Exploring at O’Leno State Park, Florida
We spent a beautiful fall weekend camping at O’Leno State Park in northern Florida. This was such a peaceful park to relax in and unwind after a hectic week. O’Leno State Park O’Leno is located near High Falls in Florida along the Santa Fe River. The park is full of picturesque points of interest and wildlife. Just waiting for you to explore. I found it interesting that O’Leno State Park was one of original Florida state parks when it opened in 1940. This park’s rich history connected to Civil Conservation Corps of the 1930’s and its past location of the lost town of Leno will enchant any history buff. This…
