High Falls State Park
The kids were on spring break last week so a little camping trip was much needed. We chose a campground out of state, but not that far from home. High Falls State Park in Georgia was our next camping adventure. High Falls State Park High Falls State Park was once a well established town in the 1800’s. It fell on hard times after a railroad bypassed the town. Businesses closed and people moved, it became a ghost town. The remains of the gist mill and powerhouse can still be seen on the hiking trials throughout the park. It is now a state park. Campground The campsites have two different locations,…

How to Make a Campground Reservation in Florida

Dutch Oven Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownies
On our last campout to Salt Springs we made Dutch Oven Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownies. They were suppose to be Dutch Oven Mint Brownies, but my boys ate all the Andes mints. I had a tube a cookie dough that I had brought to try out in my pie iron so I used that dough to make Dutch Oven Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownies. Ingredients The ingredients you use may vary from mine because of the brand of the boxed brownie mix you purchase. Use what your box tells you to use. Brownie Mix 2/3 Cup Oil 1/4 Cup Water 2 Eggs Tube of Cookie Dough (6 – 7 Slices) Directions…

Rainbow Springs State Park

This is the first time we have been to this beautiful park and it was worth the trip. Location Rainbow Springs is located in Central Florida, near the city of Dunnellson, in Marion County. This would be a great day trip if you are visiting the Tampa or Orlando area. It is a bit of a drive, but a great state park to just relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. History Rainbow Springs and the surrounding area had been inhabited by several cultures for thousands of…

How to Use a Pie Iron
On our campout to Salt Springs Recreation Area we experimented using a pie iron I had gotten my husband for Christmas. This post should probably read “How Not to Use a Pie Iron”. I think we did absolutely everything wrong when we used it for the first time. So learn from our mistakes so that when you try it, you’ll be an expert Pie Iron Camp Chef. Seasoning The first thing you need to do with your new pie iron is to season it. No this isn’t added seasoning to your grilled cheese sandwich, this is seasoning your it before you use it so your food doesn’t stick to it.…
