Summer Sunset Slushies

A great way to beat the heat of summer with family and friends are Sunset Summer Slushies, Adult Freeze Pops. My sister and I made these on a hot day in July. They were so much fun to make. We loved coming up with different combinations to experiment with, it felt like we were in a science lab.

I came up with the name Summer Sunset Slushies because the colors of the freeze pops remind me of a summer sunset in the Midwest.

We picked some of our favorite drinks, some with the alcohol already in it and others that we added soda and vodka to. That was the fun part, coming up with different combinations. Take your favorite adult beverage and turn into a cool treat for the summer.

One of my favorite combinations was the orange soda and vanilla vodka. Also the vanilla vodka with black cherry soda was pretty tasty as well.

Freeze Pop Bags

I found the freeze pop bags here. The bags came with a handy little funnel that made filling the bags so easy. The freeze pop sleeves that came with the bags were also great to have. They keep your fingers from freezing when enjoying your Summer Sunset Slushies on a hot summer day.

Helpful Hints

A couple helpful hints that we learned when doing the Summer Sunset Slushies is make sure not to fill them completely up, leave room for expansion. We did not leave much room, and made a huge mess in my sister’s freezer. If possible place them in a container to lay flat in when placing the pops into the freezer in case of leakage.

Also we found out that having two people help fill the freeze pop bags is the best. One to hold and one to pour.

Lastly, it takes a while for these adult freeze pops to become solid. That’s why we called them slushies, because we liked them almost frozen, but not quite. Allow at least 24 hours for them to freeze before enjoying them.
