Easy Pull Apart Garlic Roll Bites in a Dutch Oven
We made these easy Garlic Roll Bites on a recent camping trip to Canopy Oaks. This well-known recipe has only a few ingredients and is a snap to make. Perfect for camping!
Ingredients
16-18 Rhodes Rolls Thawed
1/2 Stick of Butter
1 Tablespoon or to Taste Chopped Garlic
Cooking Spray
Instructions
Make sure to ready your briquettes. Depending on the size of your Dutch Oven, ours is 10 inches, you will need approximately 21 briquettes. Place 14 on top of the Dutch Oven lid and seven below. This will get your temperature to 350 degrees.
Cut each thawed roll into four pieces. Layer the rolls directly into a well-seasoned Dutch Oven or use a Dutch Oven liner that has been sprayed with a cooking spray. Cut your butter into cubes and place on top of the rolls. Sprinkle on the chopped garlic to taste. Place the Dutch Oven lid over the rolls and let rise until double in size.
Next, place approximately 14 briquettes on top of the Dutch Oven lid and seven below. Bake for an estimated 25 to 30 minutes. Check around 20 minutes to make sure everything is browning well. Bake until golden brown.
Garlic Roll Prep
Make sure to cube the butter and cut each thawed roll into fourths before placing them into the Dutch Oven. Make layers of roll bites, butter, and garlic as you go.
Place the Dutch Oven lid on the Dutch Oven and let the roll bites double in size. Depending on the weather, this can take a while. It was a chilly weekend when we went camping, and I had to place the Dutch Oven inside the camper close to the heater to get the rolls to rise before baking.
Baking
After the garlic roll bites have doubled in size, place the Dutch Oven over seven hot briquettes. Then, place fourteen hot briquettes on the top of the Dutch Oven lid. Let the garlic rolls bake for twenty minutes before checking on them. It took about twenty-five minutes for our rolls to be ready. Baking times, especially with a Dutch Oven, will vary.
Use caution when baking with a Dutch Oven. They are hot! I recommend using heat-resistant gloves, and a lid lifter. Both will come in handy when baking with a Dutch Oven.
Bake the Garlic Roll Bites until golden brown.
I was going to bring a jar of marinara sauce to use as a dip, but I totally forgot it. They were fantastic without the sauce, but they would be amazing with it. Don’t forget your sauce!
Classic Camping Recipe
The original Rhodes Rolls Dutch Oven Garlic Pull-Apart is a classic Dutch Oven recipe that I based my recipe on. The original recipe uses all thirty-six rolls in the Rhodes Rolls bag. I used half that because it was a bit much for just the four of us. I also used chopped garlic instead of garlic salt and half the butter. Try your version of Garlic Roll Bites in a Dutch Oven.
Happy Camping!
