Is a Log Splitter Worth the Investment?

I did a lot of research before buying my husband a log splitter for his birthday. I didn’t know if it would be worth the cost. They can be expensive. I also didn’t know how much he would actually use it. After reading many reviews I decided on the Kindling Cracker XL for several reasons, safety and ease of use.

After one camping trip I found out the answer if this was a worthwhile investment. For us the the answer is YES! The one I purchased was simple to use and saved time when starting the campfire. But the most important factor is the safety of using it versus the cringeworthy way my husband used to spit firewood.

Easy to Use

The simple design of the Kindle Cracker makes splitting pre-cut wood easy and safe. My eleven year old could split logs with ease and had fun doing it. I tried it too, and it is so simple to use.

Building a Campfire

Building a fire that will last is the key to a good a campfire. My boys are Scouts and believe that they are experts in the art of building and maintaining an efficient fire. Everyone has their own method.

The Log House Method is my husband’s go to assembly. The Kindling Cracker made assembling it a breeze and we had nice campfire the rest of the night.

Before You Buy

Do your own research before buying a log splitter. If you camp more at resorts, which sometimes don’t even allow campfires, it might not be a worthwhile investment for you. Check prices. The Kindling Cracker is sold on Amazon by Northern Tool. Sometimes your local Northern Tool retail store will have sales and discounts you can take advantage of.

Don’t forget to purchase a mini sledgehammer, safety glasses and work gloves to use with your new log splitter.
