Is the Coleman Multi-Panel Lantern Worth the Money?
I finally broke down and bought the Coleman Multi-Panel Lantern that I have been eyeing for a few years now. Father’s Day was the perfect excuse to get it for my husband. Also the scout camping trip he went on with our youngest son was a fantastic way to put it to the test.
Pros of the Coleman Lantern
This is a very versatile lantern that is perfect for long camping trips. The removable panels are great for small trips in the dark to find the restroom. The panels are basically mini flashlights that the whole camping crew could use. The base on the lantern does stay lit, even when the panels are removed.
My husband loved the fact that the lantern has different modes of brightness. He said the lower setting of brightness enough to light his tent at night, but if he needed to light the camp area outside, the higher light setting could handle it.
The lantern is not heavy or cumbersome. It was light enough to hang with a bungee cord in his scout tent.
The USB port is a bonus feature that is convenient for charging cell phones in a pinch. Not that there was much cell service in the Blue Ridge Mountains, but it was a convenient way to keep the cell phone charged.
Cons of the Coleman Lantern
The biggest con of Coleman Multi-Panel Lantern is the fact it takes 8 size D batteries, that are not included. You will have to purchase the batteries to get the lantern base to work. The rechargeable AAA batteries for the panels are included.
Another thing my husband was concerned about were the panels staying on the lantern. He said the magnet holding them in place could be a bit stronger, because the panels could easily fall off when bumped. If you are camping with a bunch of boys, the lantern needs to be able to withstand a bit of roughness.
Overview
Overall in our opinion, the lantern was worth the money. It is a fantastic camping lantern with multi-functions. I also think it will be a great addition to our hurricane kit.
