Campsites

Our campsite for this camping trip was #43. It was a fantastic location for walking to the spring and close proximity to the bathhouse. It was a little difficult backing into the spot with our camper, but once in, we had plenty of room to camp. Picnic tables and a fire ring are provided, as well as electric and water hookups. A dump station is located near the entrance of the camping area. Cleanup from the hurricane season is still going on, with a lot of trees down, but progress is being made.

You will want a camping mat at this state park to help keep the sand out of the camper.

Tent camping is available as well, with plenty of locations to choose from in both the Hickory and Magnolia locations.

Manatees

Manatee Springs is, of course, known for their manatees. Expect to spot them relaxing in the warmer water of the spring in the cool winter months. We had a warm camping weekend, great for swimming, but not for manatee spotting. We were lucky to spot this one chilling out where the spring and the Suwannee River meet, just at the end of the boardwalk.

On our last day of camping, we did an early morning walk down to the spring to hopefully catch a glimpse of one. We did, but my pictures were not the best.

A relaxing stroll on the boardwalk is also a great way to view the natural wildlife of Florida.

My son would have loved to have scuba dived here, but had to settle for snorkeling since neither of his parents are certified.

Our favorite part of the camping trip was really just hanging out at our campsite relaxing around the campfire.
