Camping at Lake Louisa State Park
Hurricane Dorian messed up our weekend plans of camping at the beach. Luckily I was able to snag a last minute reservation at beautiful Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont, Florida.
This is such a wonderful place to spend the weekend with lots of activities for my boys to enjoy. Although it was hot, even by Florida standards, we managed to explore this park and have a relaxing weekend of camping.
Lake Louisa State Park
Lake Louisa State Park is located only 30 minutes from Orlando. Making it a convenient campground for those vacationing at nearby theme parks. It is a great place to stay to decompress after a hectic workweek or a theme park excursion.
The State Park actually encompasses a series of lakes besides the prominent Lake Louisa. Our campground was situated between Dixie lake and Hammond Lake. There are also a few smaller lakes in the park, all part of the Palatlakaha Chain of Lakes.
Lake Louisa State Park offers many activities for campers and daytime visitors. Biking was definitely the most popular that we observed during our visit. Other outdoor recreational activities that are available are hiking, kayaking and fishing.
Camping
The campsite we grabbed at the last minute was in fabulous location, close to the fishing pier and shower house. Our site happened to be paved and was a back up campsite. Other campsites offered pull in assess ability and if you were lucky some campsites even had full hook ups. Ours did not have a sewer hook up, but the dump station wasn’t that far and easy to get in and out of.
The shower house was spotless and well taken care of. If you have a husband like mine that is always worried about the gray water tank filling up you know how important this is.
The campground itself was beautiful with spacious campsites for campers. There is a bit of foliage for privacy between campsites, but you are going to know there are other campers nearby.
Cabins are also available to rent if camping is not your thing. We sneaked a peak at them and noticed the great lake views they offered. Just note that pets are not allowed in the cabins.
Cabin rules aside, this is a pet friendly campground. Just be aware of the park rules regarding pets. Be sure to remember your pet’s health records, keep them on a leash at all times and clean up after them.
Kayaking
Lake Louisa State Park is a fabulous place to kayak. Bring your own kayak or rent one at the park. Either way it’s a great way to enjoy the park’s lakes.
Hiking
The state park is full of trails to hike. Grab a trail map and head out to explore the woods. Don’t forget to bring water and bug spray.
Geocaching
Geocaching is our new favorite hobby. We just started doing this treasure hunt a few weeks ago and were excited to find that Lake Louisa State Park had a few located in the park.
On a side note…..Bunkhouse Bedding
My two boys always complain how hot it is when camping in Florida. Finding bedding for them that is not too bulky has been a challenge. They don’t want anything heavy, but still want a light blanket to cover up with at night.
Bunkhouses in campers are not the easiest to find bedding for. The twin beds are not a normal twin, and even twin XL bedding doesn’t work that well.
This camping trip I decided to find them bedding that would work for them, and cut down on laundry as well. I only had to wash their fitted sheet and the blanket. Both boys really don’t use top sheet, which I didn’t put on their beds. This really cut down on the bulk that bedding can make.
They each picked out their own blanket found here and I found these sheets at Target on sale. They of course picked out the same color of blanket and each one refused to change their color. There are several colors available for this blanket. The boys love them. They are soft and not heavy. I think I finally found the perfect bedding for them.
