    The Old Spanish Sugar Mill

We woke up on a lazy summer Saturday and with a craving for pancakes. With not much going on we decided to take a little day trip to The Old Spanish Sugar Mill for the best pancakes around. The Restaurant The Old Spanish Sugar Mill Grill and Griddle House is a unique restaurant located in De Leon Springs State Park, Florida. It is a Do – It – Yourself restaurant, where you make your own pancakes on a built in griddle right at your table. If you order the All You Can Eat Pancakes, which of course we did, you get two pitchers of pancake batter. The red pitcher is…

    Hiking Wildcat Den State Park

On our annual trip back to the Midwest we took a little road trip to a hidden Iowa gem. Hiking Wildcat Den State Park was an exceptional way to explore Iowa’s history and great outdoors. Wildcat Den State Park is located just outside of Muscatine, Iowa. This a unique park to explore for the day. The shaded trails lead to beautiful rock formations and stunning views of nature. We were not able to tour the mill the day…

Summer Sunset Slushies – Adult Freeze Pops

A great way to beat the heat of summer with family and friends are Sunset Summer Slushies, Adult Freeze Pops. My sister and I made these on a hot day in July. They were so much fun to make. We loved coming up with different combinations to experiment with, it felt like we were in a science lab. Summer Sunset Slushies I came up with the name Summer Sunset Slushies because the colors of the freeze pops remind me of a summer sunset in the Midwest. We picked some of our favorite drinks, some with the alcohol already in it and others that we added soda and vodka to. That…

    Dutch Oven Pizza

On our recent camping trip to Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park we successfully made Dutch Oven Pizza. My oldest son had told us last year how easy it was to make, he learned to make it while working on his cooking merit badge in scouts. Turns out it is easy to make with pre-made ingredients and a little prep work. Ingredients Favorite toppings aside, the main ingredients are pre-made dough, pizza sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese. We purchased our dough at the Publix bakery. Make your own if you have great recipe, but make it before the campout and store in a refrigerator/cooler until ready to use. Pre-made Pizza Dough Pizza…

    Dutch Oven Orange Crush Cake

We had a great time exploring Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in Jacksonville, Florida last weekend. I had a chance to try a couple of recipes in our Dutch Oven while we were camping at this pretty campground. Dutch Oven Orange Crush Cake was a simple cake to make and a delicious dessert after hamburgers over the grill. Ingredients There really are only two main ingredients for this cake. Orange cake mix and Orange Crush. Frosting is optional, but really is it? Orange Cake Mix 12oz Can Of Orange Crush Tub of Frosting (optional) Directions Pour the cake mix into a well greased foil insert or directly into a seasoned Dutch…
