    Cub Scout Halloween Campout

My Bear Scout is getting excited for his Cub Scout Halloween Campout next month with his Dad. Today I set up what I thought his Cub Scout Halloween campsite will look like. I’m glad I decided to check to make sure the tent was alright to use. It wasn’t. The last person to use it packed the tent away wet, allowing mold to grow all over it. I ended up ordering a new tent from Target. It’s a good idea to check your tent before you go camping!  I’ll be adding the “real” pictures after the campout in October. It’s a good idea to make a list of what…

    Quick and Easy Camping Menu

For our last camping trip I wanted quick and easy meals so that my family could enjoy their time on the beach.  I also knew that rain was going to be in the forecast for our weekend of camping, so any grilling would have to be done quickly.   The menu I came up with was a basic camping menu with a few make ahead options to keep things simple. Camping Menu For A Weekend Friday Dinner:  Walking Tacos Saturday Breakfast: Pancakes Saturday Lunch: Hot Dogs, Pasta Salad, Watermelon, and Cherry Coke Camp Cake Saturday Dinner: Hamburgers, Pasta Salad, Watermelon and S’mores Snacks: Banana Muffins Sunday Breakfast: Banana Muffins So…

    Cherry Coke Camp Cake

My oldest son earned his cooking merit badge over the summer.  Last weekend we put his dutch oven baking skills to the test as he prepared one of his favorites desserts he learned to bake.  We call it Cherry Coke Camp Cake.  It is a simple recipe with delicious results. There are only four ingredients: Can/Bottle  12oz Chocolate Cake Mix Can of Cherries Chocolate Chips (optional) I found a couple of casserole liners at Publix that fit into my 10 inch dutch oven perfectly.  This was so helpful with clean up.  As my son will tell you cleaning a dutch oven of hard, stuck on food is not a fun…

    Fort De Soto Park

We battled traffic on I4 in the rain to get to Pinellas County, Florida where an amazing campground is located.  Fort De Soto Park is a  county park that consists of a chain of five islands.  It is a historical, beautiful park that was a joy to explore. Our campsite was located on one of these islands.  Here is a view from behind our campsite. Our campsite was nestled into a well shaded area with Live Oaks and palm trees.  The campsites are spacious, but are close to one another.  A thin barrier of trees and shrubs do add a sense of privacy, but getting to know your neighbor is…

How to Repurpose Wooden Cable Spools

My family in Illinois have been using spools as tables around their fire pit for a couple of years.  They are handy to have around to hold drinks and S’more supplies. I of course wanted them to after seeing the different ways they could be used on  Pinterest.   So after several attempts, a couple of them made their way to Florida. Deciding what to do with them was the next challenge.  I settled on using them as nightstands since my fire pit is currently not in operation. Sand and Stain This is not a tutorial on what to do.  This is just what I did to get the desired…
