Dutch Oven Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownies

On our last campout to Salt Springs we made Dutch Oven Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownies. They were suppose to be Dutch Oven Mint Brownies, but my boys ate all the Andes mints. I had a tube a cookie dough that I had brought to try out in my pie iron so I used that dough to make Dutch Oven Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownies. Ingredients The ingredients you use may vary from mine because of the brand of the boxed brownie mix you purchase. Use what your box tells you to use. Brownie Mix 2/3 Cup Oil 1/4 Cup Water 2 Eggs Tube of Cookie Dough (6 – 7 Slices) Directions…

How to Use a Pie Iron

On our campout to Salt Springs Recreation Area we experimented using a pie iron I had gotten my husband for Christmas. This post should probably read “How Not to Use a Pie Iron”. I think we did absolutely everything wrong when we used it for the first time. So learn from our mistakes so that when you try it, you’ll be an expert Pie Iron Camp Chef. Seasoning The first thing you need to do with your new pie iron is to season it. No this isn’t added seasoning to your grilled cheese sandwich, this is seasoning your it before you use it so your food doesn’t stick to it.…

    Caramel Corn

We are getting excited for our next camping adventure next weekend. Hopefully this mild Florida weather will continue with sunny days and cool evenings. Perfect weather for camping. With the Super Bowl tomorrow and coming up with an easy snack to munch on while camping I found my sister’s Caramel Corn Recipe in the bicentennial cookbook my hometown publish a few years ago. I have never made it before but have ate a lot of it. It was an easy recipe to follow and taste so much better than store bought caramel popcorn. I will be making it again, probably next weekend for the campout. I mention my sister a…

Dutch Oven Pineapple Upside Down Cake

It was a little chilly on our last campout to Dauphin Island in Alabama.  The perfect weather to break out the Dutch Oven and cook over an open flame.   Pineapple Upside Down Cake was the first thing we made when we got a Dutch Oven last year.  It was so good, and easy to make that we decided to make it again on this trip. Ingredients  A recipe for Pineapple Upside Down Cake came with the Dutch Oven when we bought it.  We tweaked it a bit, but it’s really just following the cake recipe on the box of your  favorite cake mix with a few adjustments. 1 Box…

    Campfire Popcorn

I found the coolest camping gadget on Amazon.  It’s a popcorn extension handle for Jiffy Pop.  Technically Jiffy Pop is not suppose to go over a “campfire”, but honestly that is what Jiffy Pop is made for.  The problem with putting Jiffy Pop over an open flame was the handle became too hot to hold.  Enter my newest find, the Popcorn Extension Handle. Problem solved. Popcorn Extension Handle This handle was so easy to put the Jiffy Pop on.  Just place it in the hole, make sure the little metal hook at the top is affixed, then secure the Jiffy Pop handle to the Popcorn Extension Handle with the metal…
